Halloween Ghost Story Open Mic Experience: A Night of Eerie Elegance and Chilling Thrills

On Halloween night, The Women’s Club of Minneapolis transformed into a haven of spooky sophistication and supernatural thrills. The dimly lit lounge, warmed by the flicker of a crackling fireplace, cast eerie shadows across the room, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. Dressed to impress, guests sipped on specialty-crafted cocktails, savored delicious bites, and embraced the night’s mysterious energy.

This wasn’t your average Halloween gathering—it was an adults-only cocktail party crafted for those who love a mix of elegance and intrigue. The evening showcased professional storytellers spinning haunting tales, while daring open mic participants added their own flair with eerie stories, spine-tingling songs, and chilling comedy. For the hesitant performers, our Book of Shadows provided ghostly tales, rhymes, and jokes to share and every brave soul who took the mic was rewarded with a free drink!

Mystic magic filled the air as guests pulled back the veil with tarot readings, astrological insights, and intuitive energy sessions. These private encounters with mystic healers were available all night for guests to explore.

Between performances, lively games, thrilling giveaways, and engaging activities kept the energy high. On the balcony, guests cozied up with complimentary s’mores under the Halloween night sky. Meanwhile, Sounds by BDF, a multi-talented local artist, set the tone with his chill, danceable beats, creating a perfect blend of eerie and electric vibes.

From The American School of Storytelling to performances by burlesque artist Mick Maverick and poet The Horny Housewife, the evening highlighted incredible local talent.

Plans for Halloween 2025 are already brewing, and we’re excited to elevate this tradition even further. The Evolution of the Halloween Ghost Story Open Mic Experience

The Halloween Ghost Story Open Mic Experience has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2021. The event was first held at The Lab Taproom in St. Paul, where the cozy glow of a bonfire created the perfect setting for storytelling. That year, we were honored to welcome Desdamona, a local lyrical legend, who enchanted the audience with her haunting words and commanding presence.

In 2023, the event moved to The Dream Shop in Minneapolis, where the intimate setting provided a magical backdrop for our first collaboration with The American School of Storytelling. The evening was a blend of grassroots creativity and powerful performances, cementing its place as a must-attend event for Halloween enthusiasts.

In its third year, the experience has elevated into a luxuriously spooky affair nestled within the elegant lounge of The Women’s Club of Minneapolis. With its dimly lit ambiance, flickering fireplace, and moody charm, the venue sets the stage for a sophisticated and thrilling celebration of Halloween.

We’re excited to make The Women’s Club our event’s long-term home, continuing to cultivate its unique vibe of eerie elegance, engaging performances, and community connection. As this event grows, we’re looking forward to welcoming even more local talent and Halloween lovers into this cozy, creative space. The first Halloween event was a bonfire on the most perfect night to debut this engaging event.

 FAQs

  • This event is for adults 18 and up. IDs will be checked at the door, and guests 21+ will receive a wristband allowing them to purchase alcoholic beverages.

  • This indoor event will go on rain, sleet, snow, or shine. Step outside and enjoy the stunning views of downtown and beautiful Loring Park from several lanai balconies throughout the venue.

  • The Women's Club has a small parking lot and parking is available on the street.

  • Tickets are available for purchase at the door via cash, Venmo, PayPal, or Apple Pay. Since tickets are limited, we recommend purchasing early to guarantee your spot!

  • That's up to you. Come casually costumed, spooky cocktail attire or with a look that knocks them dead. Costumes admired but not required.

    There is no costume contest.

  • Yes, there is an accessible entrance right next to the main entrance stairs which takes guests into our 3rd floor with an elevator right in the foyer.  Folks can take that up to 4th floor.

  • This is an indoor event with no bonfire. However, there are several fireplaces within the venue and tabletop fire pits for roasting marsh mellows on multiple lanai balconies.

  • Loren Niemi, recipient of the 2016 National Storytelling Network’s Lifetime Achievement Award, founded the American School of Storytelling in 2020. With 45 years of experience, he creates, performs, teaches, and writes stories that explore the human experience.

  • With an excess of personality so deplorable it can't be contained in just one gender, Mick Maverick is a burlesquing they/them causing may/hem. They're ready to bring you something a little scarily seductive with a live sing and fling performance.

  • Crystal Lynea Colbert Brown, better know as The Horny Housewife, is an artist, academic, and athlete who intentionally writes poetry that is guaranteed to put a smile or smirk on your face. She has been published in the Seattle Erotic Arts Literary Anthology and enjoys teaching fellow humans to enjoy their own erotic selves.

  • Cathy Gnatek, a Certified Hellenistic Astrologer in St. Paul, combines a Masters in Clinical Psychology with expertise in Jungian Psychology, Tarot, I Ching, and astrology. She offers birth chart, relationship, and predictive readings. Cathy also teaches at the University of Minnesota’s OLLI program
